Major Sewer Improvement Effort

Northwest Outfall Siphon at the Santa Cruz River Rehabilitation

Pima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department (RWRD), and its contractor, Hunter Contracting, will begin work to replace the existing siphon and inlet and outlet structures located near the 18th hole of the Silverbell Golf Course. This project requires the design and installation of new corrosion-resistant structures with some modifications to the surrounding sewer lines.

The existing structure near the 18th hole, is known to produce high turbulence and generates hydrogen sulfide gas (H2S) which results in a significant amount of rotten egg sewage smell. This project will replace the existing foul-smell producing structure with a new, properly designed system that is corrosion-resistant and reduces turbulence - thereby eliminating the offending smell.

Hunter Contracting, in coordination with City of Tucson Silverbell Golf Course personnel will perform several construction-related activities on the Course from March 2023 through August 2023. Work will consist of installing a temporary, above ground, sewer bypass system and excavation, removal and replacement of the existing siphon, inlet and outlet structures.

When rehabilitation of the outfall siphon structure is complete, Hunter Contracting will work with personnel at Silverbell Golf Course to restore one of the 17th hole Tee Boxes to its pre-construction condition along with replacing another Tee Box that has settled or sunken over time.
